You don’t have to go off-grid to avoid surprise charges. A few simple habits make a big difference:
Lean on Wi-Fi. Hotels, cafés, and most restaurants across Europe offer free Wi-Fi. Download your maps, queue up your uploads, and make your calls when you’re connected through Wi-Fi Calling.
Download before you go. Save offline maps of each city, your boarding passes, and any guides or reservations. You’ll need far less data on the ground.
Turn off background data. Apps refreshing in the background can quietly burn through data while you’re not even looking. Switch background refresh off for anything non-essential.
