A suggestion for Tello’s Marketing team; an 89 years young, person’s thoughts.
Pick up a copy of AARP’s magazine. There are three ads designed around a monthly subscription, for elderly person’s. It imagines fearing a fall, unable to get up and summon help. A cleverly designed limited use phone, worn around the neck, with a live person responding at the press of a button. Fearmongering marketing, but obviously, effective.
Your most inexpensive plan is cheaper and more importantly, much more versatile; enabling various help contacts, stored in a phone’s memory contacts. Considering that age group’s inflation limited pensions, a great deal.
Tello’s expertise and time permitting, a short article for AARP’s audience, enumerating Tello’s choices available for the elderly to consider, would perk up their interest, and open their wallets. Start with an inexpensive, ‘Dumb’ flip phone, and/or no data, only talk, and later, add a ‘Smart’ phone trade-in deal.
I noticed Walmart offers a locked Verizon flip phone for $11, but $31 monthly no contract plan. The sales clerk, stationed there and paid for by Verizon, claims two or three buyers a month. Hmm; opportunity knocks. The possible combinations are endless.
I suggest checking out AARP’s ad rates, and then spending some time designing an ad appealing to the 55 plus, generation. A win-win idea, no charge, thank you.

Please work on a way to sync all billing for families. I have four lines and could not set them up at one time. Now I will be reviewing three bills . Love to just receive one . I think it would be a great cost benefit for you too. Also any chance getting the taxes removed like the “Visble” network… Has $25 / line unlimited text, unlimited phone, unlimited data? I went with you for a family plan… And it’s not really any different.. just taxes and multiple emails accounts.

Just one thing would make your service look even better. Make the advertised plan prices inclusive of taxes, even if that means that the price advertised looks a little higher than it does now. My family is about to join Tello, but we’re coming from a provider that showed all prices inclusive of taxes right on the front page. If they said our plan would cost $25 for each phone, $25 was exactly what was charged to the card every 30 days, not $26, not $27.89, exactly $25 to the penny.
Not seeing the tax included in the up-front price I must say gave me pause for a bit, but I did want to find out just how much we would pay, especially since we are up against a deadline with our current provider, so I did speak with one of your wonderful humans, she was able to calculate the taxes on the plans we were interested in with no info other than my zip code, and even with the price not being inclusive of tax, your service will still cut our phone bill nearly in half, a tall order since the company my family is currently with is also an MVNO. Still, I like the fact that the company we have now, although it is slamming its flip phone shut at the end of this month, told us up front what we would pay, with the exception of tax on the SIM itself. For the peace of mind of knowing exactly what the end price will be, I would actually pay $2 to $3 more than the currently advertised price if the $2 to $3 was part of the advertised price and was the same as the final total, rather than talking to someone to help me find out what the end price will be or giving billing information and creating an account in order to calculate the taxes on the plan, which is what it appeared I would have had to do had I not thought to call a human. It seems that the company we are with for the next day or two was a trend setter in that regard, as a couple of others started including taxes in their plan prices within the past year. It would be really nice to see Tello moving in this direction as well.
I do at this point want to emphasize the HUMAN factor that appears to set Tello apart from all its competitors regardless of price or features. This was by far the best interaction I have had with a phone service provider in recent and even not so recent memory. Your humans really are good at what they do. A couple of times, before getting started, I had questions, the tax calculation was just the first. In both cases, I called you on the phone, and in both cases I spoke with a real HUMAN, something that I thought went the way of analog cellular sservice or something. Both times, your humans were courteous, knowledgeable and extremely helpful in answering any questions I had, not to mention that they really had no way of knowing that I was calling at 10:30 on a Sunday evening because I was interested in new service rather than being an existing customer. I’m only guessing here, since our service won’t begin until we receive our SIM kits, most likely tomorrow, but I’m thinking your humans will be just as helpful if I ever do need anything in the future. This just didn’t seem like some kind of sales strategy to gain new customers as too many companies do these days; it seems like the way of things round these parts, and for this you certainly have my gratitude. Here’s to another 8 years, and another and another and another and … . So far, you guys totally rock!
