Tello comes to the rescue with a friendly and easy porting process and once RingPlus customers are up and running with Tello, they get 30% off when they first order a phone plan. All they need to do is use the coupon code RINGPLUS on the checkout page and place the order until February 12. How to port fromRingPlus to Tello, hassle free
You already made the right decision by switching to Tello, and just like everything else here, porting is easy.
You don’t have to close your account at RingPlus in order to join Tello, but you need the porting out details:
- Log in to your RingPlus account.
- Click the phone number you want to port out, then Manage Device
- Your PIN will be the 5 or 6 digit number listed as MSL
Once you’ve got your RingPlus account number, password, name & address (as they are listed on the phone bill), you’re ready to start. The great thing about this? Tello has no porting fee, so no worries here.
- Create an account on tello.com
- Go to Bring your own phone section and enter your ESN/IMEI/MEID.
- If your phone uses a SIM, the one from RingPlus works on Tello too, just enter the SIM number and click ‘Check’.
- Last porting step: enter your phone number.
If you don’t want to keep you old RingPlus number, you can just get a new one from Tello, and that will go smoother.
Porting details that no one tells you about
- Most porting failures are due to the incorrect details, so make sure you get the right information from your previous carrier.
- With Tello, you can only have one line per account and that means you can only make one port per account; if you want multiple lines, the best way is to open several accounts with different emails → one for you, one for the Mrs, and one for Junior.
- The porting in process usually takes about 2 business days, but due to the high volume of port in requests, it may take longer than usual. Please be patient, we are working on making the process as fast as possible. In case you have any question, our Customer Support Team is ready to help you, 24/7.
Glad to have you onboard
Finally, you get to the fun part: choosing a phone plan tailored to your needs! Build your own plan by adding minutes, texts & unlimited data, nothing is pre-defined and there are no contracts! Hello, pure freedom & flexibility!!!
We stand by our word: no fees whatsoever, no even when upgrading or downgrading your plans! The amounts you may see extra on our invoice are state taxes that apply to every product; they have nothing to do with service, maintenance or any other fee other carriers may charge and have nothing to do with Tello.
Here is our pledge to you: we are here to stay and promise not to let you down! And we’re keeping our promise, but don’t take our word for it, see what our customers think about us.
Will the 30% continue as long as we have the plan, or only the first month? Also, if we change plans around will the 30% be attached only to the first plan chosen, or to the account (basically as long as we have service)?
Thank you for asking this! The offer is valid only for the first month, no matter the combination of minutes, texts and data you choose.
Please let us know if you have any other question.
Keep in touch!
If you are on a Tello plan, what happens when you reach your limit for voice or text ? Is service of that type suspended until next billing? Or what are the overage rates for each type? I can’t find on your website… (I see data is throttled to 64kbps once you reach your limit.) Thanks!
We have no overage fees, so if you run out of minutes or texts your service for that specific area will be suspended until your plan is automatically renewed. However, you can also renew it yourself before the automatic renewal date or you can purchase Pay As You Go credit and be charged from that balance until your billing date.
Michelle from Tello
I signed up on Saturday. Can I still get this credit after the fact? I wrote to support and they ignored my question
Your 30% discount was already applied. As you can see in your invoice, it says “30% off for using the coupon C64FP5”. So, instead of paying $5.56, your final amount was $4.06.
Your coverage map says I don’t have coverage for my area. However, I do have ringplus service. Since you and Ringplus use the same Sprint network, would I still have coverage?
If you were using the standard Spring signal (not RingPlus national roaming), our service should work as well.
Thank you, I assume I’m not using roaming as it is disabled on my R+ account.
Does the discount apply for pay as you go as well. If so, is it applied to the initial credit only?
The discount only applies to plans.
Hello I’ve created my account and initiated the port process from RingPlus 3 days ago. My card was charged for the first month before this offer was available. Can I get the discount in the form of a credit in my Tello account(s)?
Our customer service team will contact you shortly to see what can be done.
Does Tello have service timers like Ringplus. I’d like to turn off sms/mms during certain times of the day for my daughter’s phone. thanks
Unfortunately, we can support this service feature. We apologize for the inconvenience!
Hi! I put in a port request on Saturday from Ringplus to Tello. Is there anyway I can get the 30% off now?
Our customer service team will contact you shortly to see what can be done.
Does 30% count on ” pay as you go ” plans and How many days pay as you go plans last ?
The 30% discount is only available for plans, not for Pay As You Go credit. Since Pay As You Go is not a plan, but prepaid credit, it never expires and is not automatically renewed, unless you activate the Auto Recharge feature in your account.
Does this apply to each phone numbers (plans) being brought over to Tello or just the first number only? I have several numbers I am thinking of switching.
Since for each number you need a separate account with us, the discount will apply to each one of them.
I must say I am extremely happy with Tello so far. The rates are not as cheap as RingPlus (I knew that couldn’t last) but the Tello Customer Service, including number porting, phone activation and response time to questions has been outstanding. Thx Tello.
Is roaming available and is there a charge?
Unfortunately, we don’t offer roaming yet, but if you are abroad you can make calls through the My Tello app, available for iOS and Android. The app is free and it only requires an Internet connection.
The FAQ in the myTello app (iOS) states that you can’t send text via the app. If I set up a plan with data only, can I use the app for calls & texts?
You’re right, the app doesn’t support text messages yet, thank you for pointing that out. Its purpose is to help you make calls from a different smartphone than your Tello one, using your Tello number and minute balance (either plan or Pay As You Go credit). So even if you get a data plan, you’ll still need minutes to make calls.
I forgot to add coupon code RINGPLUS. am i out of luck?
Not to worry, our customer service team will contact you shortly to see what can be done.
I switched over when RingPlus let me know they were getting evicted. First plus you offered is not having plans named by someone on bath salts.
I initiated the port process from RingPlus 3 days ago. This was before this offer was available. Can I still receive the 30% offer?
Our customer service team will contact you shortly to see if there’s anything to be done in this case.
Is this VOIP? Do I need to use a special dialer/text app like with textnow?
Our service is not VoIP, it’s an MVNO running on Sprint, just like RingPlus, so you won’t have to use any app. We only offer a smartphone app if you travel abroad and want to make calls or send texts.
On RingPlus I have a $25 balance, is there any way of applying it here on Tello?
Unfortunately your RingPlus balance can’t be transferred to your Tello account.
Spelling error in your last sentence fyi: “And we’re keeping pour promise”
Also, I was thinking about moving to your service earlier, upon returning to your site I see the rates for calls within the US on pay as you go have gone up. It was 2 cents/min (same as data) merely hours ago, now it’s 3c/min.
Why? How does this work? Are your rates going to be variable like this?
I have to admit this made me extremely leery
Thank you for pointing out the typo! We’ve corrected it. :)
The rates for US calls, texts, or data have never changed since we launched our service 2 years ago and they aren’t likely to change anytime soon. So the rate to make national calls has always been 3¢/min.
Have a great day!
Just to clarify from a response I saw earlier. You can mix Plan service with Pay as You Go service?
Sure, you can choose a plan that will renew automatically on a monthly basis (unless you renew it sooner) and also any amount of Pay As You Go credit that doesn’t expire. The minimum amount of PAYG credit that you can buy is $5. If you want your PAYG balance to be automatically recharged whenever it drops below a certain amount of your choice, you can activate the Auto Recharge feature.
If I understand your offerings correctly, I can combine a plan with Pay-as-You-Go credit.
Could I do this: Purchase a plan with 500 minutes, 0 Texts, and 1GB of Data, then add $10 of Pay-Go credit to apply only this only towards texts (and only texts) should I occasionally need to send/receive them?
Thanks in advance!
Sure, this is 100% possible. Your plan for minutes and data will renew every 30 days, while your Pay As You Go credit will never expire and you’ll be able to top it up whenever you run out of it. Or you could activate the Auto Recharge feature and your balance would automatically be refilled with the amount of your choice when it drops below $2.
If I use up my talk minutes, is there any way for the PAYG credit to be applied automatically so my call does not drop? If so, can I restrict that feature to NOT apply to data? I would like my texts to auto renew as well.
If you run out of minutes on your plan, but have Pay As You Go balance in your account, your calls will not be disconnected. All the items of your plan will renew every 30 days, so if you choose a plan with minutes, texts, and data all 3 of them will renew; if you only choose minutes and texts, only these 2 will renew, and so on.
I apologize for my previous response, yes, you can block Pay As You Go credit from applying to your data. All you need to do is set it off in your account (in the Pay As You Go section).
Since Ring+ is swamped and having a hard time keeping up with transferring out, most people at this point will have to wait until next week to port out of Ting since all lines are automatically porting to them. Any chance your discount can be extended to give us all a chance to use it?
We have great news for you! The 50% discount for the first month of using a Tello plan has been extended until further notice.
Order Status: FAILED; I cut/paste all RingPlus info and double-checked my credit card info. What am I doint wrong or is the porting process still going?
We checked your account and noticed that your order is Pending. Your porting should be finalized today and when that happens your order should become successful, too. Please let us know if you still encounter issues.
