Tello Tips: How to take care of your phone during summer
Ta-da, summer is here! That means it’s the perfect time for beach days, road trips, or backyard barbecues. No matter which activity is your favorite one, your phone will be there with you through those summer adventures. With all the fun in the sun, you might ask yourself how to take care of your phone during summer.
We know you’re gonna take some amazing photos, create great memories, and even use Tello’s brand new feature, International Roaming! That’s why, we’ve put together a list of essential tips to ensure your phone stays in top shape for the entire sunny hot season!
1. Beat the heat 🧊
Just like you, your phone can overheat under the hot summer sun. Exposure to direct sunlight or high temperatures can slow down your phone, drain its battery faster, or even damage its internal components.
So, after you’ve applied your SPF and put on your favorite shades, here’s how to protect your phone, too:
🧊 Avoid direct sunlight: Keep your phone in the shade whenever possible. If you’re at the beach or by the pool, put the phone in your bag, under a tower or at least under an umbrella.
🧊 Turn off unused apps: Any hungry apps running in the background? This can generate extra heat, so make sure you close the apps you’re not using.
🧊 Use Airplane Mode: You can easily give a break to your phone, even if you’re not flying. Simply switch the airplane mode on, to reduce heat generation and save battery.
2. Protect against sand and water 🌊
Summer fun is often about water and sand! Unfortunately, these two things aren’t quite your phone’s best friends. Even if it’s water-resistant, it’s best to avoid unnecessary risks.
🌊 Use a waterproof case: Get a high-quality waterproof case to keep your phone safe from splashes (or accidentally keeping it in your pocket when you’re going into the water – been there, done that, regretted it)
🌊 Use a resealable bag: For a quick and cheap fix, place your phone in a resealable plastic bag, that keeps out water and sand.
🌊 Dry it off ASAP: If your phone does get wet, dry it off immediately. Also, if there’s any major exposure to water, follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
3. Take care of your battery 🔋
Summer heat can be tough on your phone’s battery. You should always take care of your battery’s health, especially during extreme temperatures.
🔋 Don’t let your battery drain completely: Keeping it charged between 20% and 80% is something you should do all year round, as it will extend your battery’s life.
🔋 Charge in a cool place: Avoid charging your phone in hot places. The heat from charging combined with hot temperatures can severely damage your battery.
🔋 Use Power-Saving modes: Use them to extend your battery life when you’re out and about. Enjoy your summer adventures and give your battery a break.
4. Keep your screen clean 🧼
Summer activities can lead to sticky and sandy hands. Those two are, once again, not your phone’s best friends, especially not your screen’s favorite.
🧼 Use screen protectors: A good screen protector can prevent scratches and permanent damage. They can also help you improve visibility in bright sunlight.
🧼 Have some cleaning supplies around: If you have a microfiber cloth (which works great for your sunglasses too, btw) and some screen cleaner with you, it’s great! This way, you can quickly remove any unwanted fingerprints with traces of SPF, ice cream or anything that might get on your screen.
🧼 Avoid sharp objects: Avoid putting your phone in bags or pockets with keys, coins, or other sharp objects that can scratch the screen.
5. Always update your apps and software 🛠️
As you might know, this one’s a general rule: Keeping your apps and software up to date can improve your phone’s performance. Especially when you’re on vacation, you wouldn’t want any unwanted surprises.
🛠️ Regularly check for updates: Enable automatic updates or check manually to ensure you have the latest versions.
🛠️ Delete unused apps: Free up space and reduce background activity by uninstalling apps you no longer use.
🛠️ Backup your data: Regular backups ensure your data is safe in case of an accident. We’ll say it louder for the people in the back: regular backups. Especially if you have some amazing summer memories that you wouldn’t want to lose due to certain dysfunctionalities during your holiday. (Once again: Been there, done that, regretted it.)
By following these Tello tips during your summer, you’ll ensure your phone will stay in great condition. Also, don’t get too stressed about what could happen, we just tried to cover all possible situations.
We hope none of them will pop up during this season and you’ll enjoy a great summer and you’ll collect and share some amazing memories!
Wishing you a fantastic summer!
Your Tello team
I think it is time to improve. Tello is doing great and I loved the service but it has been running the same old plan for a long time while the competitor moved to different ideas. I enjoyed that we get 1GB and then unlimited with reduced speed. In current demand unlimited with reduced speed is not useful so Tello ended it for good but I see some competitor allows to refill for $1/1GB and that is missing in Tello. Allowing auto refill (1GB/$) will be a nice enhancement. Today or tomorrow, other will get that model so be the first for the change.
Tnx
I hope to get a new phone
